AN OPEN LETTER

From the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer

June 30, 2014

We regret to inform you that effective June 30, 2014 (the end of our Fiscal Year 2014), Veterans Green Jobs has shut down all of our program activities, including outreach to veterans, fundraising, low-income residential weatherization and fee for service activities in HVAC repair and installation. Due to the loss of our State contract, we will no longer provide low-income residential weatherization services to Denver and Jefferson counties in Colorado. Veterans Green Jobs will continue to exist as a non-profit organization for the immediate future, but with very limited staffing and virtual operations. Currently, the Board of Directors is exploring options for the future as we close out the Fiscal Year.

Pending any final decision on our future, we will no longer accept philanthropic donations in support of our organization. We encourage the many of you who have generously supported our organization and programs in the past, and who remain committed to supporting our veterans, to seek out other non-profits in the veterans' sector. The need for your support to our veterans remains urgent.

For those veterans whom we have assisted in the past or who may be looking for employment opportunities in the green sectors, we strongly recommend that you connect with the following organizations:

  1. For veterans seeking full-time employment opportunities in any sector, we recommend the HERO2HIRED (http://www.H2h.jobs) website, sponsored by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), which provides comprehensive job search capabilities, virtual career fairs and online job postings. Another excellent resource for veterans transitioning and seeking employment is VETNET (http://www.vetnethq.com/), which provides an on-line portal to career connections and entrepreneurship.
  2. For veterans interested in careers in natural resource and outdoor conservation careers, we recommend that you visit Veterans Fire Corps (http://www.veteransfirecorps.org/current-opportunities). This successful program, started by Veterans Green Jobs as a collaborative effort with the Southwest Conservation Corps in 2009, established the Veterans Green Corps (VGC). This program empowers Veterans to transition to civilian life by leveraging their leadership experience to meet pressing conservation needs on public lands. The Veteran Fire Corps is a specialized VGC program that provides comprehensive training for veterans in wildfire mitigation and a pathway to federal employment with land management agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. This program is one of the lasting legacies of Veterans Green Jobs and is fully supported by Conservation Corps throughout the U.S.
  3. For veterans interested in farming and sustainable agricultural careers, we recommend the Farmer Veteran Coalition (http://www.farmvetco.org/), which has established a nation-wide network for career development and entrepreneurship in sustainable farming.
  4. For Colorado veterans seeking other than employment support services, we recommend the Colorado Resource Portal for Veterans, developed and sponsored by Veterans Passport To Hope (at: http://www.veteransresourceportal.com/). This portal provides a comprehensive listing of non-profits serving veterans within our Colorado communities.

Despite this unfortunate turn of events, we stand proud of the many accomplishments by Veterans Green Jobs over the past five years in providing veterans' employment services in the environmental and energy sectors, and in providing residential energy efficiency services to improve the quality of life of citizens in our region. Thank you for being a part of this important mission and for your commitment to those who have served in the uniform of our Armed Services.

In common service to our veterans,
