The national unemployment rate for post-9/11 military veterans varies between 13 and 20 percent, about double the national average.
We want to reverse this trend.
We want to help YOU get meaningful work.
As a military veteran, you know what it means to work hard. You have leadership skills, an ability to adapt, team-oriented values, and a desire to continue serving your country. That’s why you expect to find good employment opportunities when you get out of the service. You want a job that takes advantage of your skills and interests – and that allows you to take care of yourself and your family.
But when it comes to finding those jobs, you may not know where to start. Veterans Green Force can help with that. It was created to bridge the gap for veterans who recently exited the military and are seeking a successful transition to the civilian workforce.
Boots on the Ground: One Veteran at a Time
Veterans Green Jobs is building Veterans Green Force, a nationwide outreach, recruitment and placement program that matches military veterans with green sector jobs and training. It was designed to help combat the high rates of unemployment among former military servicemen and women.
As the cornerstone of the Veterans Green Jobs mission, the Veterans Green Force program matches veterans’ military experience and career interests to the skills needed by green sector employers, links them to training and educational programs to provide them with skills in key subject areas, and connects them with available jobs.
Having already trained and placed hundreds of veterans in outdoor conservation and home energy efficiency jobs since 2009, Veterans Green Jobs is uniquely suited to do this work. We are the only agency that focuses exclusively on connecting veterans with employment in the green jobs sector. We aim to connect with 1,000 veterans and place 300 of them in jobs in two years.
Matching Veterans with Employers
The success of Veterans Green Force will rely on our ability to reach out to veterans like yourself who are interested in green job opportunities, and match you with employers who want to hire veterans. If you don’t have the skills needed to meet a particular job opportunity, we’ll connect you with the training and hands-on experience you need to get that job.
Here’s how it works:
Outreach: We provide veterans with program information through job fairs, events and networking.
Contact: A veteran interested in green careers contacts us and submits an application.
Assess: We assess the veteran’s current skills and military experience.
Counsel: We help the veteran refine and shape his/her eligibility to match available job openings.
Train: If applicable, we guide the veteran toward a training or certification program to help develop needed skills.
Match: We connect the veteran with an employer who needs green skilled workers and has a job opening.
