DENVER, July 11, 2012 – Kynnie Martin has been hired as industry liaison for Veterans Green Jobs’ employment assistance program, which matches military veterans with available jobs in the green economic sector. Martin will be responsible for connecting with and building relationships with green industry companies with the goal of placing veterans into career positions. The aim of the program is to place 300 veterans into jobs by mid-2013.

Martin moves into this position from her role as the nonprofit’s volunteer program manager. She joined the organization in July 2011. She has organized dozens of volunteer opportunities for Veterans Green Jobs’ weatherization program and discount retail outlet, bringing together volunteers from the local business community and the greater Denver area to provide much needed support to Veterans Green Jobs.

“Our goal is to build a network of partners who are committed to hiring veterans and supporting the Veterans Green Jobs mission of putting veterans to work in the sustainability sector,” said John Toth, senior director of veteran programs for Veterans Green Jobs. “Kynnie’s experience managing volunteer programs and doing community and business outreach – combined with her communications background and her status as a military veteran – makes her an ideal person for this role. We are thrilled to have Kynnie on board in this new capacity.”

With seed funding from Walmart and the Call of Duty Endowment, and recent additional funding from the Woodruff Foundation, Veterans Green Jobs’ employment assistance program was launched in early 2012 to increase veteran employment rates. The program is national – but initial activities will focus on Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and Washington as the program builds its support base and infrastructure.

In addition to forging relationships with green sector employers through job fairs, trade shows, networking meetings and other events, Martin will provide productive job leads to Veterans Green Jobs career counselors, liaise with career counselors and industry partners, and manage a variety of communications and fundraising functions in support of employment assistance.
