Save Energy and Money through Energy Efficiency

Veterans Green Jobs’ Weatherization Program in Denver and Jefferson County is Colorado’s largest weatherization services provider for income-qualified homes. And our Weatherization Program in the San Luis Valley provides much-needed weatherization services for homes in the poorest, most rural geographic area in the state of Colorado.

Through a contract with the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office, Veterans Green Jobs has helped an annual average of1,200 households increase their energy efficiency and safety since 2009. These services help make residents more comfortable in winter and summer, reduce utility bills, increase health and safety, and lower their carbon footprint.

In 2012, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and the GEO announced that Colorado is one of 25 states whose funding has been severely cut for fiscal year 2013, beginning July 1, 2012. This results in a 75% reduction in Veterans Green Jobs’ weatherization services. Despite these dramatic cutbacks, we intend to continue our partnership with the GEO and provide services to our communities within the limits of current funding through June 30, 2013.

Building for the Future: Veterans Green Jobs is creating innovative programs to generate sustainable sources of funding and enable us to continue serving communities and employing veterans. We are doing this through strategic partnerships with service providers and other agencies committed to creating a future that is reliant on energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Programs coming online soon include:

  • a pilot program with the Department of Energy for providing solar services to income-qualified households;
  • market rate furnace services for the Denver metro area;
  • and market rate solar leasing services.
