Kynnie was searching for a nonprofit job in the Denver area, where she could leverage her degree in communications while pursuing a dual master’s in nonprofit management and public administration. When the position at Veterans Green Jobs opened up, she immediately saw it would be a good fit with her background in the U.S. military, and would allow her to work with and serve her fellow veterans in the nonprofit arena.

“I wanted a job where I was serving a population I was passionate about. I really like being able to bring people into the organization, educate them about our work, hopefully share some of the passion that I have for it, and get them excited about volunteering. Volunteering in service to the community is important in life and everyone should do it in some way. It’s good to give back and to share your interests, skills and knowledge with other people who may not have the same opportunities you have.

I saw a motivational speaker once who encouraged his audience to pick a word that defines who they want to be and what action they want to take in their lives. My word is influential. With the leadership the Army gave me, and my own strength and courage to do the ‘hard right’ rather than the ‘easy wrong,’ I strive to be a leader for others and influence their actions and their beliefs.”
