Veterans Green Jobs is recruiting military veterans to participate in energy efficiency training at NO COST starting July 26, 2010. The four-week course offered by Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) will conclude with an eight-week paid internship with Ardently Green, a Virginia based energy efficiency contractor.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the weatherization industry, one of the few industries that is primed for growth and job creation.

Veterans in the program will receive:

Four weeks of free training for Weatherization Technician/Installer and Energy Auditor.
Basic training on General Construction and Safety and Environmental Awareness.
Preparation for Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification.
Development service at no cost throughout the training. This includes link and referral to VA services, résumé writing, financial management and a community service project in the final week of the course.
Eight weeks of paid internship ($14 per hour) along with comprehensive health insurance throughout the internship.
A $1,000 living stipend during the four weeks of training.
A $1,000 bonus upon successful completion of the entire eight-week internship.
Job placement support upon completion of the internship.

A central component of all LIUNA training is hands-on simulated exercises, which apply classroom instruction to real job situations. The curriculum used in this program is part of a catalogue of over 300 accredited training modules in construction, environmental, safety and supervision skills offered to over 140,000 workers who are trained each year. Much of the curriculum has received college credit recommendation from the American Council on Education.

The training will take place at the LIUNA facility in Alexandria, Virginia (located at 3660-D Wheeler Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304). Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the training site, as well as to the job site during the internship. Veterans Green Jobs cannot guarantee employment upon completion of the paid eight-week internship; however, as members of LIUNA, program participants will have access to a broad assortment of training and support.
