Green & Healthy Homes

Improving Quality of Life for Limited-Income Communities in Denver and Jefferson Counties, Colorado

Veterans Green Jobs’ green and healthy homes program provides home energy efficiency, health and safety services to limited income households in Denver and Jefferson Counties in Colorado. Offered at no cost to households whose income is identified as 200 percent below poverty level, these services make homes more comfortable, safe and healthy for the people who live in them.

This program reduces the burden of high energy costs for vulnerable populations that may not otherwise be able to afford home performance upgrades, as well as diagnoses and treats potential causes of disease within the home.

In addition to having limited or fixed income, relying on government assistance or otherwise struggling financially, Veterans Green Jobs’ clients are considered at risk or vulnerable because they:

  • Have high energy bills that drain family financial resources that could be used for other critical needs such as food, clothing and medication.
  • Live in an older home that is potentially laden with radon, lead, asbestos and/or indoor air quality problems (mold).
  • Have asthma-related illness.
  • Live in a home with construction hazards that impact safety.

Our green and healthy homes program is made possible through partnerships with the Colorado Energy Office, City of Denver, Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (a national coalition), and foundations with funding focused on home energy or health.
